Choosing the right gear
In 4WDs, where the motors are developing lots of torque, and the low
range gearing is very low, there may be some decision to be made about
which gear to use.
For the vast majority of 4wds, the gearing is dreadfully high. High Range is really only suitable for fast dirt driving. In anything more serious than a dirt driveway however, always go to Low Range.
Automatic transmission has the luxury of enabling the vehicle to go as slow as possible. The manual transmission models have a Low Range, which is still too high.
As for which gear to use, if you don't let the engine labour, and you don't
over-rev it then you are in the right gear.
