1. COMPLY WITH ALL LAWS AND REGULATIONS
Be aware of the laws and regulations governing the use off Four wheel drive vehicles and camping on public land. These laws and regulations may differ from state to state.
2. PLAN TRIPS WITHIN YOUR OWN AND YOUR VEHICLE CAPABILITIES
Plan your trip carefully. Take adequate water, food fuel and basic vehicle spares on trips. In remote areas travel with another vehicle and advise a responsible person of details of your proposed route; be self reliant in camping gear; don’t rely on huts for accommodation.
3. CHECK THE PROPOSED ROUTE AND THE LOCAL CONDITIONS
Check your proposed route with the office of the appropriate and authority, particularly it planning a club or group trip. They can provide up to date information on local conditions. Plan to use alternative routes it roads are wet or weather conditions turn bad; minimise road damage. When planning your trip, remember that generally it is easier on tracks, vehicles and drivers to tackle steep tracks in a downhill direction.
4. MAINTAIN YOUR VEHICLE IN A MECHANICALLY SOUND CONDITION
Maintain your vehicle in a mechanically sound condition. Ensure it is fully equipped and has a quiet and efficient muffler.
5. DRIVE ONLY ON CONSTRUCTED VEHICLE TRACKS
Remember that it is illegal to drive vehicles off constructed vehicle tracks that are formed for the passage of vehicles, remove fallen trees or limbs from tracks - don't drive around them; be particularly careful on vehicle tracks that can be easily damaged such as swamps, vegetated sand dunes and alpine areas.
6. OBTAIN PERMISSION BEFORE DRIVING ON PRIVATE LAND
Obtain permission before driving on private land. Leave livestock alone and gates as found.
7. PROTECT NATIVE PLANTS AND WILDLIFE
Respect our native plants and wildlife. Stop and look, but never disturb or chase animals; interference can affect their survival; take particular care d wildlife on roads at night.
8. PRACTISE MINIMUM IMPACT CAMPING
Choose camp sites carefully - use existing sites where possible. Don't use soap or detergents in streams or lakes; wash up well away from them. Locate camps at least 20 metres, and preferably 30 metres, from streams and lakes o if toilets are not a available bury night soil at least 100 metres from streams and lakes. Use a portable stove in preference to an open tire; it you light a tire, use only fallen timber and keep your fire small.
9. KEEP THE ENVIRONMENT CLEAN
Take all at your own, and maybe other peoples rubbish home.
10. OBSERVE ALL RESTRICTIONS RELATING TO NATIONAL PARKS
Be aware at all restrictions on the use of public land, including National and State Parks and other conservation areas, particularly regulations regarding dogs and firearms, and which protect native plants and wildlife; respect National Parks and other conservation areas.
11. OBEY ALL FIRE REGULATIONS AND RESTRICTIONS
Take care with tire, extinguish your campfire before leaving; use existing tire places where possible; prevent your vehicle exhaust from emitting sparks.
12. ASSIST IN EMERGENCIES
Assist in emergencies in the bush, if accidents, bush tires, and search and rescue, it requested by the proper authorities, and then only it you are able and properly equipped.
13. KEEP CONVOY SIZES TO A MAXIMUM OF TEN (10) VEHICLES
Keep convoy sizes to a maximum of ten (10) vehicles; respect other recreationists rights to peace and solitude in the bush; avoid noisy driving
14. JOIN A 4WD CLUB AND SUPPORT RESPONSIBLE 4WD TOURING
Join an appropriate and responsible 4WD club. Support 4WD touring and vehicle based dispersed bush camping as a responsible and legitimate recreational activity.
