Trip preparation

Things to take on a trip

While traveling in a group makes even remote areas relatively safe, you must learn to be as self sufficient as possible.

It is a good idea to put some basic tools and spares in a box, and keep them handy for your 4WD trips.

Day trips, though they may not be vary far away from civilization, can seem extremely remote if you are immobilized due to a 5 cent fuse, or

not having a spanner the correct size.

Having other people with you, driving similar vehicles is reassuring, but you should rely on others only as a last resort.

This is a list of some basic spares which should be carried. It is by no means exhaustive.

Spare spark plugs

Fan belt

Timing belt

Fuel filter

Points (if you use them)

Fuses

Plug leads

Radiator hoses

First aid kit. There is a club first aid kit, and recovery kit, which will be carried by the trip leader on every trip.

Naturally, if your car has been modified in some way that would make spares difficult to come by, or not interchangeable, then you need to pay

extra attention to the type of spares you carry.
